Fire Prevention - Delaware State Fire School

The Georgetown Fire Co. Inc hosted 77 children from the North Georgetown Elementary School, at the DSFS Sussex Training Center. Fire Prevention Chairman Jacob Ricker coordinated the event that began with a classroom session teaching the students about the Fire Triangle, and the different types of smoke resulting from combustion. The students were then shown, "Countdwon to Disaster" a video vividly illustrating how quickly and violently a fire can spread and just how important it is the have detectors and replacing the batteries two times a year. After the classroom session, the students were taken outside to the structural building, given a tour, and live burns were conducted to further illustrate the speed of flame spread and the volumes of smoke generated from fires inside buildings.
