With the day-long preparations complete, VIP's and members of the media began arriving for a very special dedication. At 6:30, Senator Thurman Adams made his yearly arrival at the back door of the fire house to thank the volunteers for all their hard work, and talk with friends. Unknown to him, It was really he who would be thanked tonight. After arriving to a roaring applause by all in attendance, Senator Adams was escorted to the stage where colleagues, friends, and family awaited him. Unveiled by President Harry Fletcher and Chief Dennis Swain was the name of this year's Oyster Eat, "The 69th Annual Oyster Eat: Dedicated to Senator Thurman Adams" and the yearly t-shirt, bearing Senator Adams likeness. Past Chief and State Fire Commissioner Bob Ricker led the ceremony followed by US Senator Tom Carper, Lt. Governor John Carney, and Mayor Mike Wyatt Senator Adams has done tremendous work for the fire service in Delaware during his many years serving as State Senator. Though he feels that it is the volunteers that should still be thanked, we must sincerely thank him for all that he has done for us. We can not thank you enough Senator Adams. The very least we can do is honor you tonight by for the first time in its history, naming the Oyster Eat in your name.
